In high-stakes operations, every millisecond counts. Delayed reactions caused by language barriers can cost lives, compromise missions, and lead to deadly mistakes. Soldiers from different nations often fight side by side—but without clear communication, they’re not truly on the same team. Reliable statistics are not readily available about language related deaths, injuries and costs as it is not in the interst of NATO or the individual nations to be transparent. I will present the range of numbers we found from our research with the sources where available.
Our objective is to draw attention to the risk our soldiers are being exposed to related to language and to provide a solution. Trained soldiers have a reaction time similar to Formula One pilots but languge can have a very severy impact on reaction times in emergy situations in hostile environments.
